Or Christmas without your famous cranberry salad? If your meal isn’t perfect, you might have a great-grandma-led mutiny on your hands.

As you purchase your ingredients and cook your dishes, you might not consider the health benefits of the foods you’re handling. Are there any natural remedies you can make from your pumpkins or sweet potatoes?

Yippee Cayenne discovered our main ingredient in your everyday cayenne pepper, so we decided to see what holiday foods can do for our aches and ailments. Here’s what we found:

1. Pumpkins

Pumpkins are packed with vitamins A, C and E, iron, magnesium and carotenoids, all of which are great for our bodies. Vitamin A helps improve our ey
esight and also keeps our skin, mucus membranes, and tissues healthy. Carotenoids reduce inflammation, which helps with several chronic illnesses. Pumpkins also boost your immune system, lower blood pressure, and aid in digestion.

2. Cranberries

After the delicious dishes you can make with them, cranberries are best known for their use in treating urinary tract infections. But that’s not all they can do. These berries contain vitamins C and E, as well as high fiber. These nutrients allow cranberries to help boost your immune system and lower your risk for chronic diseases. Use caution when eating cranberries in large amounts, however, as they could promote kidney stone formation.

3. Corn

Corn, the first food of Thanksgiving, is high in fiber, folate, thiamin, phosphorus, vitamin C, and magnesium. Along with improving eye health, corn is great for gut health. The nutrients in corn aid in digestion and keep your gut healthy by feeding the good bacteria within. Though corn is high in starch, it is also nutritionally beneficial, so make room for it on your plate!

4. Turkey

Sleep-inducing levels of tryptophan? Not so much. There is tryptophan in turkey, but not enough to actually put you to sleep. There is, however, plenty of protein. Protein is good for muscles and stabilizes insulin levels. Turkey also contains the mineral selenium, which may decrease the risk of some cancers.

5. Sweet Potato

Like, pumpkins, sweet potatoes have high levels (over 400% of your daily needs!) of vitamin A. Low in sodium and sugar, sweet potatoes help prevent diabetes and high blood pressure. Their high vitamin, fiber, and beta-carotene levels boost immunity, aid in digestion, and help prevent cancer. They’re also good for your complexion.
